Dear Fellow Rotarians & friends,
The Rotary Clubs throughout the world have an overwhelming number of members who we would call “Do-ers.” Do-ers are people who want to make a difference. In their most sincere form, they want to help others wherever they can. They’re not just in a club to do business; they’re in it to make a difference and to leave things better than they found them.
Do-ers appreciative the friendship of like-minded people who may vary on certain ideologies, but share the common thread of “Service Above Self.”
A Do-er as described by the Urban Dictionary is a person who has a seemingly impossible idea and persists until the idea is fully actualized. The Cambridge dictionary’s definition puts it this way: Do-er - Someone who gets actively involved in something, rather than just thinking or talking about it.
As we know, Rotary, as a service organization, is a voluntary non-profit organization where members meet regularly to perform charitable works, either by direct hands-on efforts, or by raising money for other organizations. We’re people who want to make a difference. We’re people who are always doing things for the benefit of others. The doing part is key. It’s the tangible action that fuels our dreams and conversations. The doing is what separates us from everyone else.
In a business setting where there are often several qualified and talented people; a true do-er can get ahead by simply doing more than anyone else is willing to do. I’ve heard it said before and wish I could give credit where it is due, but there is a saying that goes; There is room in any organization for the person who says,” Don’t worry, I’ll handle it.”
In this world there are some people who are both Dreamers and Do-ers. A Dreamer who is also a Do-er, is a person who can have the biggest impact on his family, business, organization and the world. A team that is made up of good people who share different talents are also a huge force to be reckoned with! It’s all of us in our club, isn’t it? We’re the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners and the doers. Together we can move mountains.
