It’s official. We are a fun Rotary Club!! Let there be no doubt. Fun!! Fun!! Fun!  I’d like to thank everyone who attended last Saturday’s 30th Anniversary celebration. It was a tremendous success. The night was filled with music, friendship, dancing and warmth. We even had the opportunity to officially welcome Beth Desai to our Rotary family as a new member. (Yay Beth!)

A very heartfelt thanks goes out to Kris Hadinger, Lisa Youngberg and Kevin Lynch for planning such a fun and successful evening. They all worked very hard and made the event an evening to remember. Some highlights: Kevin Lynch did a terrific job as Master of Ceremonies; Bill Hyncik delivered a great and inspiring invocation and Bill Beachall’s eloquent toast brought our club’s history to life!

Since we are the Rotary Club of Montgomery/Rocky Hill, it was a great honor to have Montgomery Mayor, Sadaf Jaffer and her husband Dan in attendance, along with Rocky Hill Mayor, Bob Uhrik and his wife Eileen.  Other Rotary luminaries included two of our former presidents and their spouses. It was great to see the “legendary” George Jarvis and his wife Fran, along with Eric Hendrickson and his wife Patricia. Also, in attendance was our very own “Interact powerhouse,” Jenn Rangnow along with her husband Jason Burr.

We even had some of our favorite people looking after us at Cherry Valley. A special thanks goes out to Justin & Maurice along with Daniel and the entire staff at the country club. The service was outstanding. The winners of the dancing portion of our program were hands down Bill and Nancy Beachell. They were like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers out on the dance floor! (Lol…I can picture Tyler saying, “Who?”)  Perhaps the best part of the evening was that our “Magnificent Eight” Charter Members were all there. Bill Beachell, Kris Hadinger, Kip Higgins, Bill Hyncik, Art Martin, Don Matthews, Doug Merritt and Keith Wheelock. You are an inspiration to all of us. There are so many people and non-profit organizations who have enjoyed the shade from a tree that you’ve planted so many years ago.

What about the next thirty years?

Our big opportunity may be right where we are right now. We have the sense to realize that a single idea can change the way we think, the way we feel, and the way we live, that right now is one of those moments when we have the ability to influence the future right now. Believe it!” ― Donald Pillai

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed. It is the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead
