Dear Fellow Rotarians & friends,

For the benefit of our newer members…

The Funnel Cake Sale is a MRH Rotary member’s “Right of Passage.” It’s the “service” part that’s mentioned in the Rotary motto of “Service above Self.” It’s one of the things that makes you a true battle tested Montgomery/Rocky Hill Rotarian!

News Flash!!!

After many years of service, legendary Rotary veteran, Jimmy “Funnel Cakes” Bartolomei has stepped down. The ladle has been passed to a new generation of Rotarians.

Jeff Knol has fearlessly agreed to assume the reigns as the leader of our funnel cake program. Our thanks go out to Jimmy Funnel Cakes for his years of service and dedication.

We now usher in a new era in MRH Rotary history. The “Reverend Funnel Cakes” era has arrived!! We know that you’ll do a great job Jeff!!

Calling all MRH Rotarians!!!
  • Our set-up this year is on Sunday August 4th. The Fair runs Wednesday August 7th through Friday the 9th. Clean-up and repair are on Saturday the 10th. We need everyone’s help.
  • For those members who are new, or just need to get reacquainted with some of our terms, I’ve provided the guide below.
    • For Batter Makers: “The Batter isn’t Right” – This usually refers to the batter being either too thick or too thin. We rely on the Funnel Cake Makers input and adjust the batter accordingly.
    • For Funnel Cake Makers: “Pour Low and Slow” – Refers to the very important technique used to produce the perfect funnel cake! It means to pour the batter from the pitcher close to the cooking oil in a slow manner.
    • For Sugar Powder Applicators: “More Sugar” – This one speaks for itself.
    • For Front Counter Staff: Please study the phrase, “Get your Funnel Cakes Here!”
    • Quality Control: Many members will voluntarily assume this responsibility. If you are a funnel cake maker and someone says, “Hey, you can’t sell that one. No one will eat THAT!” Just keep your chin up and try again. Heckling is part of the fun!
Yours in Rotary,
Tony Parziale
