Due to the spike in local coronavirus cases, the Board has decided to suspend in-person meetings through the end of February. We will be meeting Thursday 7:30AM on Zoom and an email will go out to members with the link prior to the meeting. Our speaker this week will be our own Inder Ghai who will be doing his classification talk.
At its January meeting, the club Board made the decision to cancel this year's Run With Rotary. The prevailing sentiment was that the COVID-19 issue will still be with us in the Spring and that the likelihood of success for the race would be dim. Initially, we had thought of doing some sort of virtual or hybrid version of the Run, but again, the feeling was that it would be better to simply not have the event this year and then bring it back to full strength in 2022. However, in order to replace some of the fundraising lost due to the cancellation of RWR, the Board did approve doing a Flags For Heroes event somewhere around Memorial Day or Flag Day. Additionally, we will still be selling tickets for the District 50/50 Raffle.
District 7475 Rotary Business Network will be hosting a zone-wide forum on Wednesday 2/17 at 7PM via Zoom. The conversation will be focused on "How to Empower Women to Move Forward in Rotary Leadership Roles". The featured speaker will be RI Director Valarie Wafer. All Rotarians (men or women) are invited to attend. To register, click HERE.
At it's monthly meeting, the Board approved the 2020-21 Giving Budget. Due to the pandemic shutting down our fundraising events, this year's Giving Budget is not a function of last year's money raised as is the usual case. The Board approved a $55,000 Giving Budget predicated on our club raising an additional $11,000 before the end of this Rotary year (6/30/21). If this amount is not raised, the Giving Budget will default to a contingency budget of $44,000. You can view the charities selected by clicking here (note, you have to be logged into ClubRunner to be able to view).
Check out the new flyer that was included in the "welcome bags" given to all new residents by the Montgomery Business Association. Thank you to our Public Relations Chairperson Beth Desai for overseeing this process and special thanks to Maria Kauzmann for the outstanding flyer design. And, of course, thanks to Cory Wingerter who suggested the idea. If you have any suggestions to help publicize our club, please let Beth know.
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night white-knuckled panicked about forgetting when the next Board meeting is scheduled for? Rather than grabbing your ouija board and conducting an impromptu seance with Paul Harris, you just simply need to visit the website and it's all there on the right hand side of the homepage under Upcoming Events.
