This Week's Meeting
We will again be having our Thursday weekly meeting outside under the pavilion in Van Horne Park in Rocky Hill at 7:30AM (access via the light at Benjamin Blvd by the Burger King on Route 206).  Food and drink will not be provided but feel free to bring your own food and drinks if you prefer.  Masks and social distancing will be required.  We will also send out a Zoom link to the membership and try to patch people in so that all can participate.  If the forecast calls for heavy rain, we will move the meeting strictly to Zoom (an email will go out the night before).   In addition to your masks, please wear your thinking caps as we will be having a Club Assembly brainstorming session to come up with ideas for a new fundraising project (see President's Message for more details).
Flags For Heroes
The Flags For Heroes display at Montgomery High School will be held this year from Sept 1st thru Sept 13th.   Sales to sponsor heroes start this week - please see the website (www.montgomeryrotary.org) for complete details.  For any questions, please contact Josh Turner.
Bikes For The World
We are still planning on doing a Bikes For The World collection some time in late September or October.  In the meantime, we occasionally get opportunities to pick up bikes ahead of the collection date but need a place to store them.  For example, there are 50 to 60 bikes at a bike shop just over the river in Newtown, PA that we can take if we had a place to hold them.  If you have some sort of covered storage that we can use until the collection date, please contact Zoltan Nagy.
Virtual Magic Show
Our friends at the Rotary Club of Robbinsville Hamilton are holding a virtual magic show fundraiser on July 29th at 7PM.  For more information and ticket info, please visit www.MercersGotMagic.com
President's Message: Thinking Caps On
I think we can all agree that this is not a normal Rotary year.  We can’t simply “do what we did last year but a little better”.  As a result of the restrictions caused by the pandemic, we struggle to remain cohesive and we struggle to remain relevant.  Zoom meetings helped keep us together but they aren’t a substitute for live meetings and attracting new members.  We have started up live meetings under the pavilion at Van Horne Park with a Zoom option and we are also starting up booking speakers for our meetings with the limitation that we can’t do PowerPoint presentations and the like.  We still don’t have any word from Cherry Valley Country Club as to when we will be able to get back there for weekly meetings.  Van Horne Park works fine for now but probably won’t be viable much past early Fall.  So there’s that.
