I don’t think this year would fall under anyone’s definition of “normal”. But rather than dwell on all the bad things that happened this year, I made a list of the good things that we can all be thankful for as members of the Montgomery/Rocky Hill Rotary.
Due to some cases of employees testing positive for COVID-19, Cherry Valley is temporarily suspending in-club food and beverage services through 11/24. This means that our meeting this week will be held via Zoom (a link will be sent out to the membership via email). Our speaker this week will be Simon Clark, Scoutmaster for local Boy Scout Troop 850.
Our Director of Club Service, Kevin Lynch, is seeking ideas for our upcoming Holiday Party at our morning meeting on Dec 17th. Because of the COVID-19 safeguards, the usual program of visiting carolers and sitting on Santa's lap is out of the question. If you have a good pandemically safe idea, let Kevin know or else the program will default to White Elephant gifts and ugly sweater contests.
Did you know that Rotary has formed an alliance with Toastmasters? It's true - and they're offering a series of leadership and communication courses to Rotary and Rotaract members. The first two courses, now available in multiple languages in the Learning Center, discuss fundamental leadership skills like motivation, integrity, and team inclusiveness. You’ll also discover how ethics, decision making, goal setting, and delegating help you develop the skills necessary to lead a team effectively. Watch this video to learn how to find the courses in the Learning Center and how to get the most out of them.
Or, more accurately..it’s bad news, good news. The bad news is that cases of COVID-19 are increasing rapidly in our region. And while hospitalizations aren’t at the critical point yet, they are ramping up. Cherry Valley Country Club has had a few cases of employees testing positive and, as such, they’ve shut down in-club food and beverage services for a 14 day period. This means we’re back on Zoom this week and the following week is Thanksgiving so there’s no meeting scheduled.
