Dear Fellow Rotarians & friends,

The year was 1997 when the Rotary Club of Montgomery/Rocky Hill assumed the reins of a 5K Run now known as our Run with Rotary. This annual fundraising event is at the heart and soul of our club.

I believe the RWR to be so much more than just an event. I believe that it defines who we are as a Rotary family. It defines the character of our club; it’s “service above self” in action. It’s all of us working together for a common cause that teaches us how to be better Rotarians and better human beings.

Since joining forces with the Montgomery Environmental Commission, The Run with Rotary/Earth Day Fair is now one of the three major community events in the area. We should all be proud of what we’ve done together.

We continue to raise thousands of dollars that support the many charities in our Giving Budget. The RWR has given us the ability to buy a much needed Mobile Soup Kitchen/Disaster Unit for one of our favorite non-profits, SHIP. Think about it: Our club is purchasing a new Mobile Disaster Relief Vehicle that will replace the one that was used at ground zero on 9/11!

Our RWR means a great deal to so many of us. It’s our baby! We’ve watched it grow over the years. We fight to protect it. We lose sleep over the details as we get close to the event date and we rely on each other to make it a success. We’re resilient! Our club rises to the occasion whenever we have challenges. It’s all of the Saturday morning meetings at the diner. It’s the planning. It’s the hard work as we sweat through the last minute details. The Run with Rotary allows us to give of ourselves in fellowship and service to others. It allows us to savor the success of the event at the end of the day!

“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”

My heartfelt thanks to all of the people in our club who go above and beyond to ensure the success of this event. You are individuals who I would go to battle with anywhere and anytime.  I’m proud to have you as fellow Rotarians and as cherished friends.

Yours in Rotary,

Tony Parziale
