Club News
The concept of doing more “hands on” projects popped up a few times last week in different conversations at our weekly meeting.  Given that we just wrapped up selling 50/50 tickets and are in the midst of selling flags for Flags For Heroes, it can seem like all we do is fundraise.  And fundraising is indeed important as the money collected is vital to the charities we support.
At its last meeting, the club Board voted to send $3,500 from the discretionary portion of the Giving Budget to help battle the huge upswing in deadly COVID-19 variants raging through India.  Kudos to President-Elect Andy Mozumdar for researching and connecting with the Rotary Club of Calcutta Suburban North who will use this money to buy three Oxygen Concentrators.
The Rotary Foundation Trustees and Rotary International Board of Directors have both unanimously approved adding a new area of focus: supporting the environment.   This becomes Rotary's seventh area of focus, which are categories of service activities supported by global grants. It joins peacebuilding and conflict prevention; disease prevention and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and community economic development.
